Defining Web 2.0

Web 2.0 is a part of a new technology that changes the way we interact with information on the internet. It refers to “The technologies that allow data to become independent of the person who produced it or the site it originated from.” (www.matenewmedia.org). Web 2.0 acts as a platform for communication, where the users are in control of the content. It breaks down information into individual units that can easily be moved between one site and another, allowing users to share information rather than copying it. Web 2.0 isn’t just built on one technology, rather it uses several including Ajax, Java Script, XML programming and RSS. This combination of technologies allows it to act more like an interactive software, rather than your typical read only website.

To help better understand the meaning of Web 2.0 below are a few links to video’s which help visually explain exactly what Web 2.0 is all about.
